On the 1 November, the Australian Taxation Office introduced a new identification system for Directors of Companies called Director Identification Number (DIN). The introduction of a DIN aims to make it easier to track Directors and their corporate history and prevent fraudulent activity. As you are a Director of a Corporate Trustee we wanted to reach out and notify you of this process and provide you with a helpful “how to” section to help you with the application.

What is a Director Identification Number?
A Director Identification Number (DIN) is a single, unique identifier for the individual director of a company or, a corporate trustee. The introduction of a Director ID aims to make it easier to track directors and their corporate history and prevent the creation of fictitious identities. It is going to be mandatory for all company directors to hold a DIN from 30 November 2022 and therefore it’s good to get in early to have this done.

How to Apply for a Director Identification Number?
As it requires to be completed through your myGovID unfortunately we won’t be able to complete this application on your behalf. Therefore, below are the instructions for you on how to apply;

Step 1 – Login myGovID
You will need a myGovID to apply for your director ID online – and if you haven’t already, you can set up your myGovID now –

Step 2 – Gather your Documents
You will need to have some information the ATO knows about you when you apply for your director ID:

ATO Notice of Assessment
Super Account Details

Step 3 – Complete your Application – https://mygovid.gov.au/

Once you have a myGovID with a Standard or Strong identity strength, and information to verify your identity, you can log in and apply for your director ID. The application process should take less than 5 minutes.
